Shiraz Abdullahi Gallab is a designer, publisher, and educator who was born but not raised in Khartoum, Sudan. She is interested in language, form, and specificity, alongside media, Black studies, and popular culture. Shiraz examines her narrative by publishing her words and sentiments across multiple platforms. In 2018, she published headgear.pw, which was designed and programmed by Becca Abbe. In 2017, she published Sapphire Tears in collaboration with Publication Studio SF. She has contributed to Women of Graphic Design, Ficciones Typografika, Are.na, and Amalgam. She is the founding curator and co-author of Samples and Parallels, a project that calls on participants to study an appropriated text. Shiraz has taught at the California College of the Arts, Virginia Commonwealth University, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and SUNY Purchase. She is based in Chicago.
